The sales tax on petrol has been increased to 1.63 per cent ad valorem from zero per cent. Similarly, the sales tax has been increased to 7.37 per cent from 7.20 per cent.

However, the sales tax rates on kerosene oil and light diesel oil have been kept unchanged at 8.19 per cent and 0.46 per cent, respectively.

Previously, the FBR issued SRO 1579(I)/2021 to make changes in the sales tax rates on supply of petroleum products.

The federal government on December 14, 2021 announced decrease in prices of petroleum products. However, with the increase of sales tax on certain POL products the real decline in prices in international market was not passed on the general public.
