LAHORE: The Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) Lifestyle Monitoring Cell has flagged potential tax evasion by a prominent Lahore-based film and television actress, after identifying undeclared wedding expenditures inconsistent with her reported income. The FBR has not revealed her identity, citing the preliminary nature of the investigation.

Preliminary findings indicate the actress may have spent approximately Rs67.7 million on her wedding earlier this year, a sum not reflected in her tax returns or wealth statements. The Lifestyle Monitoring Cell assessed her declared income, lifestyle indicators, and publicly available information, including social media documentation of wedding venues, catering, attire, jewellery, and production costs.

Officials noted a substantial mismatch between her declared income and observed expenditures, including frequent foreign travel and new business ventures.

The Cell has proposed a comprehensive audit for tax years 2020–2025, covering income sources, bank accounts, credit card transactions, and other revenue streams, including endorsements and social media earnings.

Additionally, the FBR recommended issuing a notice under Section 111 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, requiring the actress to justify the source of her wedding funds. If unsatisfactory, the expenditures could be classified as concealed income and subjected to taxation, penalties, or possible prosecution.
