These six main reasons short and non-filing of documents required for processing of refunds claims include blacklisting or suspension of registration of suppliers of refund claimants, suppliers of refund claimants are non-filers, suppliers of refund claimants are non-active.

Similarly, non-verification of invoices/GDs in automated refund-processing system for processing of refund claims; and cases where show cause notices have been issued in respect of inadmissible claims” a well-placed official source at FBR told this scribe here on Friday while sharing data pertaining to amount of paid sales tax refunds along with number of cheques of banks and number of pending claims.

The documents show that total number of the sales tax refund claims pending in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) at the close of the fiscal year 2012-13 were 99,967 and value of these claims was Rs 88403 billion.

Similarly, at the end of fiscal year 2013-14 total number of pending sales tax refund claims was 96,294 and they involved total amount of Rs 74904 billion.

However, numbers of pending sales tax refund claims slid down previous fiscal year to 88,731 and these claims involved the amount of Rs67536 billion.

Thus in last three fiscal years total number of pending sales tax claims was 284992 and it involved a total amount of Rs  230843 billion.

Documents show that a total number of claims processed was 20105 and paid amount was Rs29,553 billion in the fiscal year 2012-13. Similarly, in the fiscal year 2013-14 FBR processed 23155 sales tax refund cases and paid Rs 32,353 billion to the claimants against these claims.

Moreover, FBR paid an amount of Rs 43,725 billion against 21398 sales tax processed claims in the previous fiscal year. Thus FBR processed total number of 64658 sales tax refund claims and paid total Rs  105,631 billion in last three years.
