Sources said that prior to this, punishment for mis-declaration and pilferage was limited. The authorities were bound to impose fine on persons involved in mis-declaration or pilferage. But after amendment in Finance Bill of 2016-17 any person who will involved in mis-declaration will face imprisonment of five years.

Sources said that FBR were receiving complaints about mis-delcration and pilferage but after investigations they were restricted according to law to impose fine only. But now they will also authorized to award jail term to persons involved in mis-declaration and pilferage.
