FBR receives 1,133,341 tax returns till April 30

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has received 1,133,341 tax returns till April 30 from last week’s 1.12 million.

According to updated Active Taxpayers List (ATL) issued by the FBR, during the corresponding week, about 9,511 non-filers discharge their liabilities by filing their annual income tax return for tax year 2016. The number of active taxpayers in the first ATL – 2016 issued this March was 1.01 million.

The appearance in ATL is mandatory for availing reduced rate of withholding tax under different provisions of Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.

The FBR estimates around 1.3 million return filers by June 30, 2017 through strict action against non-compliant taxpayers. The FBR also estimates around 1.8 million returns for tax year 2016 before issuance of new ATL in March 2018.
