Customs Intelligence recovers smuggled cloth worth Rs 300,000

ISLAMABAD: Directorate of I&I-FBR Regional Office Rawalpindi has recovered 2,715 yards (568)Kg foreign origin cloth from a car.

According to details, the anti-smuggling staff intercepted a Toyota Corolla XLI car bearing Registration No LEB-8890 coming from Peshawar near Chakry Motorway Interchange.  Apparently the said vehicle was found loaded with foreign origin goods.

A thorough search of the vehicle was conducted in the presence of witnesses and owner of the goods which led to the recovery of foreign origin ladies cloth .

At the time of occurrence two persons claimed the ownership of the above mentioned recovered foreign origin cloth but on demand they failed to produce any evidence regarding legal import or lawful possession of recovered foreign origin cloth.

Therefore, the said smuggled cloth along with Toyota Corolla XLI car was seized under Section 168 and 157 of the Customs Act, 1969 after serving notice u/s. 171 ibid.  The approximate CIF value of above said foreign origin smuggled non-duty paid goods comes to Rs 300,000/- excluding value of seized vehicle which is estimated as Rs 1000,000. Further proceedings are in progress.
