FBR revises clearance procedure of food items, hikes auction fee

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has revised procedure of customs auction registration and clearance system for food items, it is learnt here.

Official sources told Customs Today that according to revised clearance system, if the food items are quickly decayed due to clearance during import or export procedure, the board made it mandatory for the importer/exporter to inform the concerned collector in written and the collector will decide accordingly on clearance of imported/exported food items.

Meanwhile, sources also told that the FBR has also revised the registration procedure for the bidder who take part in the auction announced by the customs department. The Board has increased the registration fee from Rs50,000 to Rs0.5 million, and made it mandatory to submit a surety bond in favor of President of Pakistan to concerned Collectorate, while the amount will be adjusted or refunded after 30 days of auction occurred.

Sources said that the board has also made it mandatory for the customs agents to attend 6 days training course conducted by Directorate General Training and Research (DGTR) after every two years. The fee for the training will be Rs3,500 which will be paid by the customs agents, sources added.
