ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued notices to 29,901 tax filers for the provision of accurate and complete information along with their tax returns.

These tax returns have been incomplete and invalid for lacking the complete required information and most of them were manually filed.

Sources told Customs Today that some 311,495 tax returns were filed by the taxpayers manually whereas the number of tax returns filed electronically was 281.594. As they were found correct and valid so were entered in IRIS system of the FBR. Therefore, there remained no balance tax returns for entrance in the IRIS.

The source said that Active Tax Payers List (ATL) included names of all those taxpayers, who have filed their income tax return for the Tax Year 2014 and 2015; however, in the case of electronically filed return the name of a taxpayer is included in the ATL within a week of such filing.

In case of manually filed returns, only those returns are not included in ATL which are invalid under the law. Therefore, the source said that notices for furnishing complete particulars had been issued by FBR to the taxpayers who had filed invalid return containing incomplete particulars such as CNIC etc.

“As soon as they furnish their accurate particulars their returns will be fed into the system as well” the source observed.

Since a tax return is invalid as if the return has not been filed correctly, the person is non-filer under the law and banks are required to deduct tax, on banking transactions of those persons because no separate data is available for such persons as they are included in non-filers.

However, the source said that FBR had provided facility to taxpayers because any taxpayer could check his or her ATL status through mobile SMS at 9966 and FBR addressed grievances of the taxpayers regarding ATL on priority basis.
