FBR seeks report about actions against goods, currency smugglers

ISLAMABAD:  Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) directed Chief Commissioners, Regional Tax Office, Peshawar and Chief Commissioner Regional Tax Office, Islamabad to submit a detailed report on actions taken against smugglers involved in goods and currency smuggling, it is learnt here.

According to official sources, the board expressed displeasure on the open sale of smuggled goods across the country, especially in Hayatabad, Karkhano Market, Peshawar; Blue Area, Islamabad; Bara Market, Rawalpindi and other main markets in various major cities and informed that the mega marts and super marts that had expanded on a large scale in the urban centers particularly mentioned above were openly housing and selling smuggled and sub-standard goods.

Sources further added that the board has directed that field formations to launch anti-smuggling operations and adopt effective strategy to curb the menace of smuggling while also directed to submit detail report on to actions taken against the smuggled goods and currency smuggling.

It is important to mention here, FBR also directed director-general of Customs Intelligence & Investigation Islamabad to submit a comprehensive report on the anti-smuggling operations against smuggling, while FBR also started measures to further strengthen the enforcement of laws to address the smuggling of foreign currency.
