ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue has started a quest for 24,000 taxpayers registered in the general sales tax (GST) list, as these taxpayers are not present at the addresses on which they got themselves registered.

Despite investigation, the FBR has so far remained unable to find any clue about these registered taxpayers.

On the other hand, more than 45,000 GST registered taxpayers have been rolled out of the [GST] tax net for not paying tax.

Keeping this in view, the FBR has made GST registration process more difficult, as GST certificate holders were misusing it.

Sources said that the GST amount had not been submitted to the national treasure and fake invoices were being issued to the people. On this basis, millions of rupees were being reclaimed in the name of GST, and Faisalabad is on top of the list in this regard, sources said.

Now, the total number of registered sales taxpayers has dropped to 124,000, which was more than 150,000 before this development.
