FBR starts probe against Customs official involved in releasing illegal foreign currency

ISLAMABAD:  Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has started inquiry after seven years against the customs officers involved in violation of releasing the seized foreign currency without taking NOC from special judge of Customs and Taxation Court.

Sources told Customs Today that FBR has constituted a four-member inquiry committee under the supervision of Customs House Post Clearance Audit (PCA) Director General Dr Wasif Mamon.

Meanwhile the inquiry committee has called the involved customs officers on August 16, 2018.

Sources while providing the details has told that Customs AFU has seized $0.11million and 2800 Chinese currency from accused named Allabash in 2009. The case was registered by Customs AFU official was heard by special judge of Customs and Taxation Court Rawalpindi who declared the import of foreign currency as illegal and order to confiscate the currency.

Sources further told that after the judgment of special judge Customs and Taxation Rawalpindi, the accused appealed to additional collector AFU Abdul Razaq in April 2009. The additional Collector heard the case and order to release the seized foreign currency without prior NoC from Special Judge Customs and Taxation giving a relief to the accused after 18 hearing of the case.

Sources told that now FBR has started the inquiry of case and called the concern customs officials for further investigation on August 16.
