FBR submits report of seized goods during 15 months in Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has submitted a report in the Supreme Court of Pakistan in which it confirmed to the court that the customs authorities have seized illegal goods and contraband goods worth Rs36.4 billion during last 15 months.

Sources told Customs Today that in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the board has stated that it has enhanced enforcement measures, adopted by the customs field formations, resulting in seizures of goods/contraband items worth Rs25 billion including seizure of DTH devices worth Rs24.8 million during Financial Year 2017-18 which represented 168 per cent increase in seizures held in FY2016-17.

“Likewise, Rs11.4 billion goods have been seized during the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2018-19 as compared to Rs4 billion goods seized during the corresponding period of the last year,” said a report submitted by a committee which was constituted by the apex court on October 25.

It is important to mention here that the committee, comprising an FBR member and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) additional director general, was constituted to prepare a plan and conduct necessary raids to recover smuggled DTH devices from the markets in Pakistan.
