FBR suspends DTRE facility of M/s Axact; orders to scrutinise post clearance data

KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate-MCC Exports, on the instructions of the Federal Board of Revenue, has suspended the Duty Taxes Remission on Export (DTRE) facility of M/s Axact—IT company and BOL-TV channel.

Sources informed Customs Today that the FBR, through a letter to the Collector-MCC Export Javed Ghani, has directed the collectorate to immediately suspend the DTRE facility availed by the M/s Axact on exporting consignments of different types while availing concessionary regime of DTRE.

The sources further informed that the FBR has also directed the MCC-Export to thoroughly scrutinise all the post clearance export data of M/s Axact and send a detailed report to the FBR Headquarters within a week.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation FBR Karachi, in its recent move, has already send a letter to the owner of M/s Axact and other related authorities of the IT company to produce import receipts and details of the imported machinery, equipments and other items, which were imported by the M/s Axact for its TV channel BOL.

The sources informed this scribe that authorities concerned of Directorate of Customs I&I has started investigation into the import of machinery and other equipments imported by M/s Axact on the name of BOL TV channel.

Responding to a query, the sources disclosed that the investigation into the matter is under way while the chances of tax evasion amounting to millions of rupees may be brought into the light on import of machinery and other equipments during the investigation.

It may be mentioned here that the two teams of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) including Cyber Crime Cell and Corporate Crime Cell have already investigating the matter of M/s Axact pertaining to the sale of foreign educational degrees in depth and summoned Chief Executive Officer, CEO of M/s Axact, Shoaib Ahmed Shaikh for investigating the matter.
