FBR collecting data to broaden tax net

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to broaden the tax net during the current financial year, sources said.

Sources told Customs Today that data of financial transactions will be collected from different sources. The FBR will analyze this data at the head office to identify new taxpayers on the basis of CNICs. However, the data of non NTN holders will be forwarded to National Data Base Registration Authority (NADRA) for verification of addresses and after confirmations, notices would be issued to them u/s 114 of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001.

The data will be collected from banks, motor registration authorities, car manufacturers, commercial and industrial electricity subscribers, Sui gas, immoveable property registration authority, private construction companies, cellular phone companies, NADRA, Pakistan Engineering Council, withholding statements, school and college fees.

The FBR has directed all field formations to launch surveys and collect the data of all professional doctors, engineers and lawyers. The FBR will also encourage the field offices to identify new cases within their respective jurisdictions.

It is important to mention here that FBR collected the data of over 5.6 million people during the last financial year. The FBR has decided to make the current BTB campaign different from the past and has adopted a new strategy to improve its working.
