FBR to take stern action against NGOs, NPOs involved in tax evasion

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has directed all the field formations to review tax rolls case-to-case and take stern action against those organizations which do not pursue the tax rolls, it is learnt here.

According to official sources, the board has directed Chief Commissioners of Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Hyderabad, Multan, Faisalabad and Peshawar to monitor Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) and Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) as it has been observed after reports that many organizations are involved in tax evasion in the name of welfare organizations, sources confirmed. While the board also advised not to put aside tax for those NGOs and NPOs which are not following tax rolls.

Sources also told that the board has also directed the field formations to trace those NGOs and NPOs operating in the country which are involved in tax evasion and take stern action against them.

It is important to mention here that Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) exempted dozens of welfare trusts and charity institutions from income tax where some NGOs and NPOs are involved in tax evasion in the name of trusts.
