FBR urged to plug loopholes in clearance process at Port Qasim

LAHORE: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman and member customs should take notice of undue delay in assessment, clearance and examination processes at Port Qasim due to the inefficiency of the staff.

This was suggested by International Federation of Hardware and Houseware Association (Asia chapter) Director Usman Ghani, adding that the port was becoming unpopular among the importers and they preferred to clear their consignments from somewhere else due to the non-cooperative behaviour of the officials. He said that the officials are allegedly using delaying tactics in clearance of consignment for their vested interest.

“I have instructed my principal not to send my import’s consignments for clearance at the Port Qasim as the officers are willfully delaying the clearance of consignment.

He told Customs Today that customs officials at Port Qasim have tendency to ask for irrelevant and unnecessary documents from importers just to earn speed money.

“I do not think that the FBR top officials are unaware of the fact. They must come forward to resolve the issues including delays in clearance of consignment, assessment and examination process.” he said.
