FBR devises mechanism for quick resolution of disputes

LAHORE: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is working on various proposals for the federal budget 2016-17 to remove the legal obstacles and facilitate taxpayers, official sources said here.

They added that in the first place, the FBR has also devised a mechanism for quick resolution of disputes and ratio of complaints have come down form 17,000 to 12,000.

They said that the new mechanism will improve tax compliance as well as to expend tax base. It was added that computerized national identity cards have been declared as the national tax number.

They said that about one million people were filing their tax returns, adding that the government is working to enhance direct taxation and it has already achieved from 30 percent to 40 percent target.

It was also informed that  the board is also striving hard to enhance the cost of non-filers in order to expanding the tax base as well as to improve the tax compliance culture.
