ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) continues its crackdown on tax evaders across the country, focusing on major non-filers and individuals under-disclosing their taxable income.

According to sources, data on non-filers and under-tax payers is being shared with field formations to facilitate swift action.

Notices will be issued to tax defaulters upon approval from the FBR chairman, with a focus on those failing to report accurate income and assets. The data collection effort has been bolstered by information on high-value property, vehicles, bank balances, credit card usage, and expensive foreign travel, as well as luxury health and education facilities.

In 2024, more than two million people have reported zero taxable income in their returns, raising concerns about the integrity of the tax system.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has already directed that efforts to speed up action against tax defaulters be prioritized.

The FBR has also announced that action will not only be taken against the tax evaders themselves but also their facilitators, as part of a broader effort to enhance tax compliance and revenue collection in the country.
