ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government has authorized few courts to prevent tax theft. The Federal Board of Revenue has given authority to the special customs courts, Taxation and Anti Smuggling to hear the cases regarding income tax, sales tax and federal excise duty. Separate courts are also expected in the near future for this purpose.

The Inland Revenue has started preparation to start with the companies who have been served with the last notice. The authority has been given to the mentioned courts under notification issued by the Law Ministry. According to notification following judges will serve in the courts; Chaudhary Mumtaz Hussain in Rawalpindi, Muhammad Tanveer Akbar in Lahore, Sofia Latif in Karachi and Niaz Muhammad Khan in Peshawar. Though the courts were hearing cases before this but there was no forum to hear the cases regarding tax theft. The Inland Revenue has taken this step to find tax defaulters and bring maximum people under tax net.
