MULTAN: The federal government has decided to establish a new zone for the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in South Punjab to tackle pendency, territorial and jurisdiction issues, which the agency has been facing in Punjab for years.
As per details, the FIA will build a new zone named as Southern Punjab Zone (SPZ), Multan at the estimated cost of Rs.350 million. Federal Investigation Office SPZ would also have three circles at Divisional Headquarters including Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan and Sahiwal region.
Over the past years, human trafficking has increased immensely in the South Punjab region and it was in the public interest that FIA Multan Circle should be raised to the level of an independent zone headed by a director as “Director FIA Southern Punjab Zone, Multan”.
According to Deputy Director Multan Region Shahriyar Babar the new zone would help a great deal in addressing issued faced by the FIA particularly the pendency of enquires and cases.
