Federal govt paid Rs 22,290m oil, gas royalty to Punjab

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government has paid Rs 22,290 million oil and gas royalty to Punjab during last four years, official sources in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources said.

“The amount was paid to the province from the financial year 2012-013 to 2015-16 (April 30, 2016) for onward distribution among the oil and gas producing districts,” they told APP.

The sources informed that the royalty was distributed among eight oil and gas producing districts of the Punjab province including Attock, Chakwal, D G Khan, Jhelum, Khanewal, Jhang, Rawalpindi and Mianwali.  They said the amount was spent under the Community Welfare Programme to ensure provision of facilities like electricity, natural gas, education, water, sanitation, health and roads in the districts.

Commenting on the royalty given to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, they said the Karak district was provided Rs 307.654 million royalty and Rs 742.1 million production bonus in last eight years. Besides, Rs 2,237.981 million and Rs 656.616 million to Kohat and Hangu district respectively on account of royalty, they added.

Whereas, the sources said the Sindh province received Rs 336 billion royalty from the federal government for onward distribution among oil and gas producing districts in last 25 years during the period from 1989 to 2014.
