ISLAMABAD: The Federal Services Tribunal has as many as 7,608 cases all over Pakistan filed by various government institutions and their employees, it is learnt.
These cases are being heard by five benches of the tribunal situated in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore.
Aforementioned cases included 6,226 regular cases filed with tribunal’s benches, 1,242 miscellaneous petitions, and 140 review petitions.
According to the details in documents available with Customs Today , tribunals’ three benches in Islamabad were hearing 4,688 regular cases, 955 miscellaneous appeals and 126 review petitions; one bench in Lahore was hearing 617 regular petitions, 114 miscellaneous appeals and 14 review appeals; while, Karachi bench was hearing 921 regular petitions and 173 miscellaneous appeals only.
Most of the above mentioned appeals are filed owing to certain grievances among public sector employees of different institutions. However, in few petitions, some public departments had approached the tribunal for decision review.
Meanwhile, tribunal’s Chairman, Ahmad Farooq Sheikh had directed all benches to hold regular hearing of cases filed before June 30, 2013.
