FIA directed to establish ‘database of human traffickers’

ISLAMABAD: With the aim to tighten noose on the human traffickers, the Interior Ministry has directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to establish a database within 90 days to keep the complete record of the rogue elements.

The database would also be used to carry out operations against corruption, financial irregularities besides human smuggling.

The decision was taken in a high-level meeting at the Interior Ministry chaired by Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan. FIA director general, National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) chairman, all four regional directors of FIA, executive director State Bank of Pakistan and senior officers of Ministry of Interior were also present in the meeting.

According to a statement issued by the Interior Ministry, the meeting was briefed about FIA’s ongoing drive against human smuggling and known cases being investigated by the agency including Khanani and Kalia money laundering case, Pakistan currency exchange case and AKD Securities case besides others.

The meeting was informed that during the anti-human smuggling drive started in November last year, total 598 alleged smugglers have been arrested and their cases are under trial. Among the arrested accused, 137 are pro-claimed offenders, 48 are court absconders and 11 are most wanted human smugglers.
