FIA lodges FIR against customs inspector involved in smuggling

MULTAN: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has lodged a criminal case against a Multan Customs inspector over his alleged involvement in smuggling.

According to details, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) immigration arrested a suspected passenger from Multan International Airport who was coming from Dubai through private airlines  few days ago and recovered huge quantity of non-customs goods including branded cellular phones, play stations, DVD Players, Laptops, I-Box and others valuable things of worth Rs1.5 million.

Arrested passenger was taken into custody from overseas helpdesk counter on his suspicious behavior with immigration authorities. Suspected person was identified as Muhammad Ashraf resident of Karachi and he was already involved in several smuggling cases of goods from abroad.

Federal Investigation Agency had shifted the arrested smuggler into Circle Office Multan by taking smuggled goods into their possession for further investigations regarding smuggling of branded cellular phones and other valuable goods. Sources told Customs today that arrested person Muhammad Ashraf admitted that he is working for the smuggling network operating in whole Pakistan and his frequent travel history also gave information that he was already involved in several smuggling cases.

The suspect, namely Safdar Ashraf revealed before the FIA team that a Multan custom inspector Ishaq Ahmad Maral assisted him in the smuggling of goods from Multan International Airport and he has given him bribe for safe clearance.

The FIA team took prompt action on the interrogation from arrested smuggler over his alleged involvement in smuggling and lodged a FIR against said Inspector of Multan Customs. The FIA also lodged a case and conducting raids to arrest the custom official. Further investigations in this matter are still under way till filing of this report.
