FIA starts investigation into pilferage of heroin worth Rs 30m from Sialkot Dry Port

SIALKOT: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has started special investigation in theft case of 6 kg fine quality heroin (worth Rs 30 million) from the state warehouse of Sialkot Dry Port Trust (SDPT).

According to the FIR (No. 20/2015) lodged at Sambrial Police Station on January 14, 2015 by Syed Khalid Javaid (Superintendent Customs SDPT) under sections 380, 457 PPC, the Customs department had stored as many as 20 packets of fine quality seized heroin, weighing 1 kg in each packet in the special lockers at state ware house of Sialkot Dry Port Trust (SDPT). From where, some unknown accused had stolen as many as six packets of heroin, weighing 1 kg in each packet from there during the night between Jan 14 and 15, 2015. The worth of stolen packets is Rs.30 million in the international markets, the FIR added.

Police had registered a case against two accused Customs inspectors and other security staff officials of the Sialkot Dry Port Trust (SDPT) for their alleged slackness in their duties there.

FIA teams recorded the statements of security officials of SDPT and Customs officials concerned, in this regard.

Sambrial Police had no power to investigate this case and it had referred to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to investigate this case. FIA officials said that all the responsible accused persons would be brought to justice in this regard.
