ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has notified the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to take action against over 250 fake social media accounts using the names of Pakistan’s armed forces to be operated.

The list was forwarded to the FIA by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). It includes 45 Twitters accounts, 94 Facebook pages, 101 Youtube accounts and 15 Instagram accounts.

These accounts are being operated by unauthorised personnel and individuals who portray themselves speaking on behalf of the armed forces using the names of the Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Navy.

The action against these accounts was taken as they were giving the misleading impression that statements posted from these accounts were the official statements of the armed forces of Pakistan.

The PTA, after being notified by the FIA, has initiated a crackdown against those fake accounts.
