FIA to produce arms smuggler in court on Thursday

KARACHI: Sofia Latif, a customs, taxation and anti-smuggling judge, has remanded an accused to the FIA’s custody after arms and ammunition were seized from his personal baggage at the Jinnah International Airport. Mumtazuddin, the accused, will be produced before the judge on Thursday.

Sources informed Customs Today that customs has recovered 25 parts of pistol and 97 magazines from the accused who was boarded a Turkish Airline. “On investigations, the arrested smuggler has confessed to his crime, saying he had previously smuggled four such consignments to Pakistan,” sources said.

An FIR has been lodged against the smuggler under section 2(S), 156(1)(8) of Customs Act 1967 and in contravention of Import Policy 2013.

Sources also revealed that the ammunition has been reportedly smuggled for a NADRA official Col (r) Hafeez after receiving advance payments.
