FIA unearths natural gas theft of Rs480m lodges FIR against Yaqoob Steel Mills, SNGPL staff

LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Thursday registered FIR against Yaqoob Steel Mills and Sui Northern Gas Pipe Lines (SNGPL) for committing a theft of over Rs 480 million’s natural.

As per the official sources of the FIA in the light of the government’ s drive against gas theft and its pilferage, Punjab Zone-I Lahore FIA Director Muhammad Waqar Abbasi directed In-charge EGOA ,Fayyaz Hammid to take action against persons involved in gas theft.

Upon the secret information a team was constituted and a raid was conducted at Yaqoob Steel Mills, Main Sheikhupura Road Lahore.  The FIA team during the raid successfully discovered an illegally installed direct bypass of 2 inch DIA in connivance with of SNGPL staff at the Yaqoob Steel Mills’ factory.

It was said that the directly fitted by pass of 18 inches was connected with the main pipe line of SNGPL.  The FIA team seizing the bypass has registered FIR against the owner of the steel mills and SNGPL staff and initiated investigations into the case..

The FIA sources disclosed that the accused is a habitual offender who in 2017, was also caught red handed. A loss of 480 million has been caused to national exchequer due to this direct bypass.
