NEW YORK: The fiat fullback ute has been revealed overnight at the 2015 dubai international motor show with the 4×4 ute only available as a double-cab.

FIAT IS THE LATEST car maker to roll out a 4×4 double-cab ute. The Fiat Fullback was revealed overnight at the Dubai International Motor Show and will go on-sale in Europe in autumn 2016.

Practical Motoring spoke with FCA Australia’s PR boss, Lucy McLellan who said the company had no plans to bring the Fullback Down Under. Shame.

Part of the Fiat Professional stable, Fiat’s short statement said that Mopar had already developed a range of accessories for the new Fullback. Measuring up to 1780mm in height, 1815mm in width and 5285mm in length, with a wheelbase of 3000mm, the new Fiat Fullback will offer a payload of 1045kg and will be powered by a Mitsubishi-sourced 2.4-litre, aluminium, turbo-diesel engine. Huh? See below for explanation. Two transmissions will be available, a new six-speed manual gearbox or a five-speed automatic transmission with sports mode, and both will be combined with full four-wheel drive systems.

Now, unless you’re reading this without looking at the photos, you’ll have noticed the distinct similarities between the Fiat Fullback and the new Mitsubishi Triton. And that’s because the vehicles are one and the same, meaning the Fullback will get one of the longest rear overhangs in all of Ute-dom. Indeed, beyond the redesigned front bumped and Fiat grille, the Fullback is basically just a rebadged Mitsubishi Triton.
