WASHINGTON: The Fiji Ports Terminal Limited is looking at upgrading the Suva Wharf to an automated terminal. Chief Executive Hasthika Dela says the upgrade plans are in the pipeline.
“We are looking at a paperless terminal that means hundred per cent automated terminal and our clients are also very supportive of that – If you look at other ports like especially Asian and European ports they are fully automated.”
Dela has reassured staff that the move will not affect employment opportunities adding that since 2013 the number of job opportunities have increased. Meanwhile, the FPTL will soon invest in modern lift machines worth an estimated five million dollars to assist with the daily operations of the port.
