HELSINKI: Finland’s foreign trade deficit widened in November from a year ago, as exports fell faster than imports, preliminary figures from the Finnish Customs showed Thursday.
The trade deficit rose to EUR 240 million in November from EUR 134 million in the corresponding month last year. In October, the shortfall was EUR 160 million.
The value of exports fell 5.0 percent year-over-year in November and imports dropped by 3.0 percent.
Shipments to EU member states slid by 1.0 percent in November from the previous year and those to non-EU countries plunged by 12.0 percent.
Imports from EU-countries grew five percent in November, while arrivals from non-EU countries slumped by 15 percent.
In the January to November period, total trade deficit of the country narrowed notably to EUR 365 million from almost EUR 1.8 billion in the same period of the preceding year. Both exports and imports dipped by 4.0 percent and 7.0 percent, respectively.
