HELSINKI: The value of the country’s exports declined by four per cent in 2015 compared to the year before, according to the Finnish Customs’ preliminary data.

In 2015, the value of exports amounted to euro 53.5 billion, said the statement from the Customs. The decline in total exports was mainly influenced by two factors: a steep downturn in the value of exports of oil products and a considerable slump in exports to Russia. The decrease in the trade deficit was due to surplus in extra EU-trade, said the Customs.

Similarly, the value of imports went down by six per cent, dropping to euro 54.2 billion. The decline in imports value was attributed to a steep fall in the value of imports of energy products as well as slight decline in imports of intermediate goods.

Last year, however, saw significant reduction in the trade deficit compared to recent years. According to preliminary data, the trade balance showed a deficit of euro 690 million in 2015.  The deficit amounted to euro 1.8 billion in 2014 and euro 2.4 billion in 2013.
