HELSINKI: According to the port authority statement released on 14th April , Finland’s port of Helsinki handled 2.8 million tones of cargo +16.6% from January to March 2015, year-on-year. According to the statement, imports totaled 1.2 million tones (the level of the previous year) exports totaled 1.3 million tones (+6%).
In March, the port handled 1 million tones of cargo (+6%) including 440,000 t of imports and 480,000 t of exports (+6%). Over the month the port serviced 776,000 passengers (-2%, year-on-year), over the 3-months period – 2.1 mln passengers (+1%).
The Port of Helsinki is one of the largest ports in Finland, the largest passenger port and the third largest in the Baltic Sea. In 2014, the port handled 10.8 million tonnage of cargo (+3%, year-on-year).
