HELSINKI: Finnish pulp, paper and timber manufacturer UPM is expanding its Otepää plywood mill in Estonia, almost doubling the mill’s production to 90,000 m3 annually.
A new bio power plant delivering 18 megawatts of power will also be constructed on the mill site, replacing the former, partly oil-burning plant. It is set to be fuelled by the by-products of plywood production, including bark, chips and dust.
At a cost of 40 million euros, the refurbishment of Otepää strengthens the company’s position as the leading plywood manufacturer in Europe. The mill’s personnel will also increase by 40 persons due to the expansion. Work is set to commence in the summer and will be completed by the end of 2016. Production at the mill will continue normally during this time.
