MULTAN: The maiden meeting of Cotton Research and Development Board (CRDB) was held here at Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI) on Monday to identify the problems faced during the process of research and development, and suggest the methods to address them.
Director Cotton Punjab Dr Sagheer Ahmad, who is the secretary of the board, said that the CRDB was set up to achieve the objective of higher cotton production through research and development and suggest ways to address farmers’ problems.
Vice Chancellor Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture (MNSUA) Prof Dr Rao Asif Ali said that the university’s land was at the disposal of the cotton board to
carry out research projects and develop model farms. He promised that the MNSUA researchers would extend full cooperation to agriculture scientists in executing research projects.
Director General (Research) Dr Abid Mahmood stressed the need for consulting all the stakeholders for a better crop. He urged the board members to suggest initiatives to meet the objective.
The DG research said that the Federal Seed Certification and Registration Department allows sale of seed after it is certified that the seed has germination strength of 75 per cent or above. Former DG Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood, Dr Tasawwar Malik, Dr Zafar Qureshi, Dr Muhammad Zahid, Dr Ishtiaq Rajwana, Dr Zulfiqar, Khalid Mahmood Bhutta, Naveed Asmat Kahlon, Khalid Mahmood Khokhar, Rana Iftikhar, Jamil-ur-Rahman, Dr Shahid Zia, Sohail Alam, Bilal Khan and others attended the meeting.
