FAISALABAD: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Field Intelligence Unit (FIU) Sarai Muhajir has foiled an attempt to smuggle 9385 kilogram fresh apples worth more than Rs 2.8 millions. FIU also impounded Hino truck worth Rs 1.5 million which was being used for smuggling purpose.

Sources told Customs Today, the anti smuggling staff of Customs Intelligence received information that huge quantity of foreign origin apples were being smuggled. The anti smuggling staff intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration No C-8361 near Sarai Muhajir Chowk District Bhakkar which was coming from Afghanistan side.

At the time of occurrence one Noor Islam son of Ghulam Qadir, resident of Kas Banda Qaldara P.O Dargai district Malakand was driving the Hino truck. Apparently the said truck was loaded with Afghanistan origin apples. Thorough search of the truck was conducted in presence of witnesses and driver which led to the recovery of the 9385 basket of foreign origin apples.

On demand the truck driver produced a different Goods Declaration (GD) Number 4048 dated 17-10-2019 and bilty No 65 dated 20-10-2019. During scrutiny of the above mentioned GD, it was found tempered and bogus. Therefore anti smuggling staff seized the Afghani apples along with truck under section 168 of the Customs Act 1969. The FIU Sarai Muhajir team confiscated the fruit and forwarded the case to the customs adjudication for legal process.

The constituted team comprised intelligence officer Irshad Ali, Muhammad Anwar, sepoy Asad Iqbal, Muhammad Khalil, Muhammad Abbas, Hafiz Usman and Muhammad Irfan took part in the operation against smugglers.
