Flaws in WeBOC: IT professionals to help out Customs

ISLAMABAD: The FBR has decided to appoint a team of Information Technology (IT) experts in Karachi to help the Customs officials in operating the automated system, Web Based One Customs (WeBOC), for eradicating faults in the customs clearance process at ports.

Sources said that the Customs authorities have recently informed the Federal Board of Revenue that a body comprising senior Customs officers has been formed for undertaking assessment of the WeBOC system, adding that the improvements have been worked out after a thorough study conducted by the body.

The sources maintained that in order to further improve WeBOC system, Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL) Chief Executive Officer has been advised with the approval of FBR chairman that a team of five to six highly qualified IT professionals of PRAL may be posted for working with Project Director WeBOC based at Karachi.

The PRAL has recently posted five computer professionals for the purpose for only two weeks, whereas they are required to be posted for a longer duration to improve the system.

The FBR chairman directed the PRAL CEO to make each and every arrangement to satisfy the requirements of deployment/hiring of computer professional at Karachi for the satisfaction of Member (Customs) and Project Director (WeBOC), sources added.
