LAHORE: The flour millers have increased price of 20kg flour bag second time in a week by Rs10 to Rs725 against earlier rate of Rs715.
After the announcement of new rates, the 20kg flour bag will be available at Rs745 in retail market against previous rate of Rs735. On August 4 too, the flour millers had announced an increase of Rs10 in ex-mill rate of 20kg flour bag.
The mill owners blamed short supply of wheat in open market, which according to them has led to an increase in prices of wheat in the open market.
Former Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA) chairman Bilal Sufi claimed that wheat rate in open market has increased to Rs1,300 per 40 kg from Rs1,260 per 40kg during the last one month. He said that govt-announced rate is Rs765 per 20kg flour bag which was announced last year when support price of wheat was announced at Rs1300 per 40 kg. He said that flour price is yet below official rate due to tough competition in open market, as wheat is cheaper in open market than the rate of wheat lying in godowns of food department.
