Flour mills body appeals govt to withdraw sales tax on wheat

LAHORE: Chairman Pakistan Flour Mills Association Punjab Mian Anjum Ishaq has said that government has imposed 5 percent sales tax on wheat in budget 2015-16, which is totally unjustified.

He said that due to levy of sales tax the prices of flour bags will increase from 10 to 15 percent per bag, causing inflation in the country. He said that flour prices are already very high and further increase in prices will put more burden on public. He appealed the government to exempt wheat from general sales tax.

Anjum Ishaq further said that discriminated policy of government on the issuance of wheat quota for special Ramazan package has condemnable, the food department of Punjab issuing wheat quota on personal likes and dislikes which is totally unjustified.

Chairman Pakistan Flour Mills Association Punjab demanded government to issued equal quota to all flour mills. He urged government to accept demands of association at the earliest to avoid any untoward incident.
