DELHI: Ford is mulling bringing its iconic pony car, the Mustang, into the country. The Ford Mustang could go on sale in India by festive season in 2015, sources said.
The Ford Mustang has huge following in western countries, and since the Indian car market is also steadily warming up to high-end cars, Ford’s decision to bring the Mustang here will certainly pay off well.
Internationally, the current generation Ford Mustang is available in three petrol engine configurations- a 310PS producing 2.3-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost petrol, followed by a 3.7-litre V6 engine that develops 300PS and a 5.0-litre 435PS V8. All the engines will come with either a Getrag six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
Some of the other highlights of the sixth-generation Mustang include an all new independent rear suspension while it is now also available in a right-hand drive configuration. In its current avatar, the Mustang is also available in a convertible body style.
While details are scant at the moment, Ford is initially expected to bring the Mustang with the four-cylinder EcoBoost engine coupled to the automatic gearbox in fastback coupe shape to India. That said, we will have to wait and see if Ford does that, or opts for a different market strategy while bringing the Mustang to our shores.
