JAKARTA: The number of foreign tourists coming to Indonesia in the first three months of the year reached 2.29 million, rising 3.51 percent from 2.22 million in the corresponding period last year, Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said here the other day.
Arief said that the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in March alone reached 789,596, up from 765,607 in March 2014.
“Tourists from China [in March] made up the second-largest number, overtaking the position of Singapore,” he said as quoted by Antara news agency.
Foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia, the minister added, were dominated by Indonesia’s major tourism markets, namely Malaysia, China, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Singapore, followed by South Korea, the United States, India, Taiwan and Australia.
“Of the 10 biggest markets, China contributed 26,647 tourists, the second most after Malaysia with 28, 384,” he said.
