FRANCE: Previously Fossil Fuel Emissions have been resulting in global warming, air quality deterioration, oil spills, and acid rain and now a new study suggests, fossil fuel emissions might cause tribulation in regards to radiocarbon dating, which is a vital research technique utilized by a number of scientists and other industries.
Radiocarbon measurements have a range of uses, from analysing archaeological finds, to detecting fraudulent works of art, to identifying illegal ivory trading, to assessing the regeneration of brain cells in neurological patients.
Although the study states that the technique is in actual risk, scientists say that reducing fossil fuel emission levels is still an option. Fossil fuels have no carbon-14, so their mixing with the atmosphere confuse the naturally-occurring element. The process of Radiocarbon dating is, that it is quantified how much proportion of carbon-14 against non-radioactive carbon in an object has varied and consequently how much longer the object has been around.
Even a slight adjustment in the accuracy of carbon dating could make this type of measuring useless at least for artifacts in the last few thousand years. When their emissions mix with the modern atmosphere, they flood it with non-radioactive carbon. This in turn makes objects seem, through the eyes of carbon dating, older than they are.
