Four-nation customs officials’ border coordination meeting held

Dhaka : The 16 participating high officials were from India, Bhutan, Nepal, and Bangladesh . The first ever four-nation customs officials’ border coordination meeting was held at Lalmonirhat’s Burimari land port on Tuesday.

Organized by Asian Development Bank (ADB), the 16 participating high officials were from India, Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh.

During the meeting, several bilateral and trilateral discussions were held between Bangladesh, India and Nepal in order to enhance communication access, especially for enhancing Bangladesh-Nepal business prospects and allowing them to use India’s Phulbari land port as a result.

By partnering with the South Asian Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC), talks on how to implement regional trade and enhance economic development with ADB’s assistance took place.

Assistant Commissioner of Customs AKM Khairul Bashar said that five bilateral and two trilateral discussions were held during the meet, in an attempt to address various land port-related problems.
