KARACHI: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) showed deep concerns over the delay in the hearing of the petition filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) against the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) about cut in power tariff.

In a letter sent to the Nepra chairman, FPCCI President Mian Muhammad Adrees said the business community is disappointed on the postponement of scheduled hearing of Nepra that had to decide Rs3.20 per unit reduction in the power tariff; followed by reduction in oil prices and cheaper cost of power generation in the country, it said.

He also said Nepra has postponed the hearing due to the pressure of the Ministry of Finance and the Water and Power Ministry, causing hurdles in the government’s policy of passing out the relief to the consumers.

Adrees urged Nepra for immediate hearing of the petition so that the frustration, confusion and uncertainty among the consumers can be removed and the masses should get some relief in the power tariff.
