France exported 1.39mn T soft wheat in August, top market Algeria

PARIS: France exported 1.39 million tonnes of soft wheat in August, taking the volume shipped since the start of the 2017/18 season in July to 2.55 million, up 28 percent from a year earlier, customs data showed on Friday. Algeria was the leading destination for French soft wheat in August, with 535,719 tonnes shipped.

French soft wheat exports outside the European Union reached 774,517 tonnes in August, taking the volume so far this season to 1.24 million tonnes, up 4 percent from a year earlier. Soft wheat shipments within the EU totalled 611,804 tonnes. This was below a strong July volume but the season’s total so far was 63 percent higher than a year ago. Barley exports in August came to 508,109 tonnes, taking the season’s volume so far to 782,882 tonnes, down 22 percent from July-August last year. Saudi Arabia was the main destination for French barley in August with 178,808 tonnes, helping exports outside the EU recover from a slow start to the season.
