PARIS: Auto manufacturers in France saw sales of new cars jump by 22.3 percent in May compared to a year earlier as improved economic and financial outlooks encouraged consumers to make more purchases, the French Car Sales Federation (CCFA) said on Wednesday.
Last month, 175,834 units were sold across France, according to the federation.
Sales of French-made brands recorded a 29 percent growth mainly due to a sharp rise (34 percent) of Renault sales.
PSA, the country’s largest carmaker sold 51,912 vehicles in May, up 25.6 percent compared to the same month in 2015.
Foreign brands showed also an upward trend after reporting a 14.9-percent rise in sales over the period, CCFA data showed.
