“In terms of cargo turnover, last year was the second most successful year in the port’s history, and despite the stiff competition, the port of Riga was by far the largest port in the Baltic states in 2015, as it reloaded 28 percent of the cargo handled in the region,” the port’s management said in the report.

In 2015, the Freeport of Riga handled 3,588 merchant ships. Stevedore services were provided by 35 companies, and there were also seven container shipping lines and 25 shipping agencies operating in the port.

Riga is the largest port in Latvia both by cargo turnover and ship passenger numbers.
