Freight trains operations capacity crosses 100 a month

ISLAMABAD: Karachi Railway Division operated over 100 freight trains during the month of April, according to sources.

At present Pakistan Railway is operating an average three to four freight trains on daily basis and their frequency shall increase with the induction of the newly arrived locomotives from China.

Official sources said that each freight train is generating Rs 2.5 to 3 million in revenue. Pakistan Railways was in dire need of locomotives to carry out freight operations on priority since freight trains are the main source of income for railway department all over the world.

Arrival of new locomotives into the system will certainly boost freight operation resulting in further increase in the revenue, sources added. Pakistan Railways has registered a significant increase in its revenue streams during the current fiscal year.
