French trade minister visits Tehran to seek cooperation in trade avenues

TEHRAN: French Trade Minister Matthias Fekl will inaugurate a new trade office in Tehran on September 22.

A 150-strong delegation of French businessmen, led by Agriculture Minister Stephane Le Foll and Trade Minister Matthias Fekl, will start a two-day visit to Tehran today to seek cooperation avenues in Iran, following a July accord on Tehran’s nuclear program.

The delegation will be comprised of oil major Total, planemaker Airbus and car manufacturer Peugeot — as well as small and medium enterprises with sectors as wide-ranging as agriculture, finance, luxury goods, pharmaceuticals, construction and transport.

According to official statistics released by French Foreign Ministry, Iran’s imports from France in 2013 fell to $558.22 million as compared to $1.66 billion in 2011.

Meanwhile, the Iran Customs Administration put Iran’s non-oil exports to France and import from the country at $31.5 million and $571.2 million, respectively, in the previous calendar year, ended on March 20, 2015.
