ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Information Technology Anusha Rahman has highlighted the need for concerted effort, led by International Telecommunication Union (ITU), at a regional level to mitigate the cross-border frequency spillovers in neighbouring countries.
Talking to a delegation of ITU, she said that these frequency spillovers were not only causing interference with the telecommunication networks, but also providing coverage in areas along the border, said a press release here.
The minister stated that Pakistan may take the initiative at the regional level through the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) to build a regional consensus on the matter. ITU Field Mission is visiting Pakistan for the stakeholders’ consultation for the preparation of a Spectrum Management Plan for Pakistan.
Pakistan is one of the six countries out of 25 countries selected by ITU for this project. Under this project, ITU is providing technical expertise for the formulation of Spectrum Management Plan for Pakistan.
Senior officials of Ministry of Information Technology & Telecommunication and Frequency Allocation Board (FAB) were also present during the meeting.
